Is This the Secret to Maintaining a Healthy Weight in Menopause?
The GLP-1 tirzepatide is only one half of the puzzle.

According to Dr. Michael Uzmann, a physician dual board-certified in internal medicine and endocrinology, the results of this study aren’t surprising, given that we know from previous research that the GLP-1 semaglutide has the same effect when combined with MHT.
“Women with severe vasomotor symptoms should be treated with hormone therapy at the lowest dose possible per guidelines, and tirzepatide should remain top-of-the-list for weight loss in persons with obesity or overweight with comorbid illness,” Uzmann says. “That they may work together is a nice little bonus.”
Does the Research Have Any Limitations?
It’s important to keep in mind that the research does have several limitations.
“This study is interesting in the synergistic effects, but people need to understand it was entirely retrospective and based on chart review,” Uzmann says. “This was not placebo controlled, and thus prone to confounding factors.” For one, though the numbers are telling, there is also the possibility that women on MHT are more motivated to lose weight than those who are not, he points out.
